The 2006 President’s Picnic

The 2006 President’s Picnic was a very sad occasion for us because, a few days before he died, Bill Larson had asked us to go with his beloved “Captain” 61XJ and take lots of photographs. We did and sadly it may be the last outing for us with this magnificent car now that he’s no longer with us.

Cruising comfortably in a 1929 car at 70mph is an experience to be remembered all one’s life.

Alpine Eagle has been caretaking this 1929 Short chassis Weymann bodied PII for three years now since we rebuilt it and it won best in Class and most Elegant in Class at the 2004 RREC National Rally. Bill loved it and delighted in it’s being the quintessential English gentleman’s car. He’d said that it would never leave the UK because of the risk of damage to the delicate and original fabric body that a change of climate might cause. Therefore had asked us to look after it for him and while some may not see it as the most glamorous of Rolls-Royce’s, for us, there is something very special about it, we love it dearly and have looked forward to seeing it every day for three years now. We will miss it terribly when it goes.
Imogen Kimberley thought 61XJ the most beautiful car she'd ever seen and gave Roy a hug for the quality of his work!
