Rolls -Royce and Bentley realised that it would be unwise to rely on the traditional coachbuilders of the pre -war years to produce enough bodies to make the production of chassis economically worthwhile after World War II. During the 10 year production period from 1946 to 1955 for the Mark VI and the ‘R’ Type Bentley body style, only 20% of the Bentleys Built carried special coach built bodies. One of the prettiest offerings was a Hooper bodies coupe designed by Osmond Rivers. On a Bentley this design was retained from 1951 to 1955. Bentley eventually lost most of its identity and now only superficial details separate it from Rolls-Royce
This Bentley Mark VI has been subject to a complete body off restoration by Alpine Eagle including engine, gearbox, drive train, bodywork, trim and paint. B287NY is the ‘Big Bore’ 4.5 Litre type of 1952. It was fitted with 2 door coachwork by Hooper; only 7 of these cars were built this being the last. There are only thought to be 3 of these cars left. With this being the only one in the United Kingdom.
Having had only a small handful of owners B287NY has been in America for a period of time and owned by the Mayor of Treasure Island city Florida, Mr Walter Stubbs. After returning to the UK at the end of the eighties it was offered for sale by P&A Woods. The current vendor bought the car at this time and slowly had it restored over a period of years. Finished in 2007, B287NY was shown for the first time in many years at the RREC Annual event. The car was placed second only being beaten by a very pretty R type continental. Since returning to the UK the car has covered less than 1500 miles!! Most of which have been since restoration.
B287NY is regularly serviced and maintained by Alpine Eagle regardless of cost and currently is in excellent condition ready to go touring. The car drives superbly and effortlessly. The car is offered for sale at a fraction of the cost of restoration. B287NY is complete with a comprehensive tool kit including small and large tools, Original handbook, Mascot and town cap.
